workshop details

Each of us has a unique perspective on life.  Each of us has unique experiences in life.  During my workshops, you will tap into this rich reservoir of memories and stories that are uniquely yours, awaken your imagination, and challenge yourself to be creative.  Perhaps you’ll end up with a piece… a seed… that blossoms into a poem, a short story, an essay or even a play or lyrics to a song.

The workshops are based on the Amherst Writers Method a tried and true method developed nearly 20 years ago by Pat Schneider.  You can read more about this method at the Amerst Writers Web site or by reading, Writing Alone and With Others by Schneider. (Oxford University Press, 2003).

In my workshops, you will write.  You will be invited to read your writing, but read only if you are comfortable doing so.  We listen carefully to those who read and respond with what’s strong.  With raw, first draft material that even the writer hasn’t had the time to review and edit, the only useful feedback is “what’s strong” in the writing.

There is no need to produce writing or manuscripts done outside of the workshop.  As the group develops and we agree to do so, we will create the opportunity to review members’ manuscripts.
